Since February, 2016 the Karelian Resource Centre of non-government organizations starts an international project “Joining creativity”, financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The main goal of the project is to enhance economic cooperation and trade between the Nordic countries and North-West Russia and to contribute to the successful internalization of creative business in the Baltic Sea region. The project will last until April 2017. The following actions will be undertaken during this time: analyze of creative business possibilities in North-West of Russia, identification of the main problem and its solutions, detection of news forms of cooperation among partners, distribution of information about business opportunities. These activities will help to establish sustainable cooperation network among partners, to exchange experience and opinions, to share the best activities.
All project’s participants have extensive experience in sphere of creative industries. KRC is a Lead partner of the project and takes responsibility for its realization. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia and Swedish-Karelian Business and Information Centre are the main Karelian partners. Furthermore, other Russian participants are the Saint-Petersburg International Business Association, the Institute for Cultural Programs in Saint-Petersburg and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Arkhangelsk. Foreign partners are Aalto University, Lansstyrelsen, Västerbotten, the organization “Business Sweden”, Norwegian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, organization “Innovation Iceland”, Denmark organization “Centre for Culture and Experienced Economy” (CKO).
On the 26th of February the first meeting of the Karelian partners was conducted. The main targets of the meeting were to present the project, to discuss timetable of the main events and main work direction. The representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, the Ministry of Economic Development of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, The Institute of Economics of the Karelian Research Centre of RAS, The State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Interaction with Local Self-Government Bodies, local mass-media, the head of the Swedish-Karelian Business and Information Centre and business ombudsman of the Republic of Karelia were at the meeting.
The project “Joining Creativity” is focused on economic cooperation and trade between Nordic Countries and North-West Russia. This region is one of the priority areas of the Nordic Council of Ministers. This project is aimed at supporting particular companies in sphere of creative industries from Nordic countries and Russia to identify and exploit the business opportunities in North-West Russia and in the Nordic countries respectively.
